GED Student of the Month: Sabrina’s Story

Resilience is a consistent thread in every Healing Place client’s story. It is woven through the testimonies we hear and reflected in the lives we see transform every day. Sabrina’s journey is just one of many testaments to the strength, hope, and determination that define our community.

When Sabrina arrived at The Healing Place on June 3, 2024, she was searching for something different—a new path forward. Earning her GED had always been a goal, but she lacked the resources and support to begin. While in the recovery program, she pretested for the GED but chose to focus on her sobriety first. After completing the program, she returned to the GED program with renewed determination.

For Sabrina, the GED program has been more than just an educational opportunity; it has given her a sense of accomplishment and a strong foundation for life after The Healing Place. She describes the GED community as friendly and supportive, with staff who take the time to work one-on-one with participants, providing tutoring and encouragement every step of the way. Sabrina recognizes that in the past, she tended to run from challenges, but this time, she is facing them head-on. She is committed to finishing what she started, knowing that this opportunity is a blessing. With the structure and resilience she has gained at The Healing Place, she is preparing for a future in recovery work, with hopes of earning her peer support license and pursuing a career in mental health.

Sabrina’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact of our GED program and the empowerment it provides to our clients. Thanks to the generosity of the Acorn Ladies (Jewels of Grace) and the Friendship Class at Christ Church United Methodist, this program removes barriers and offers ongoing encouragement to those seeking a fresh start. Their support makes a lasting difference, and we are deeply grateful for the way they help carry out our mission.
