Last month, The Healing Place announced an exciting partnership with Louisville Metro to assist the houseless population in our city. The Healing Place is working in coordination with various community resources, as well as the Coalition for the Homeless, to provide wrap around services to individuals in our community who are experiencing houselessness. As a result of the expanded outreach initiative, The Healing Place has launched a pilot program aimed at reducing the number and recidivism rate of houseless individuals in our community. The Homeless Outreach Program utilizes a low demand program model, which essentially means that requirements for accessing services are minimal, making it easier to for individuals to do so.

The Homeless Outreach Program at The Healing Place has funding for 12 beds, which can be flexed between the men’s and women’s campuses as needed. The individuals in these beds can stay for up to a year, and they do not need to leave and come back every day as they would in our overnight shelter. Having a safe, consistent space that they are responsible for will help the individual feel connected to the community of The Healing Place, while also allowing them to access the variety of services available daily on our campus including meals, showers and hygiene items, clothing, and recovery services if needed.

The beds for this pilot program have been full since week five. While in the Homeless Outreach Program, individuals work closely with a case manager and peer support specialists who assist the client in engaging, stabilizing, establishing goals and developing plans to meet their needs. The goal of the Homeless Outreach Program is to provide a safe, supportive environment for individuals who are looking to transition into permanent housing and independence.
